A pleasingly zingy aspect of NYC retail these days is the Pop-Up Store. Mostly devoted to fashion of some sort, they are also used to promote theatre shows, music and sporting related events.
For fashion brands they make sense in lots of ways. One of the most obvious is an out of town retailer testing the NYC waters to see whether a permanent shop would be a good idea.
Several years running ‘Decades’ an exceedingly upmarket, LA based vintage store has had a short Trunk show in NYC. This year it’s on Park Ave and closes on March 7th, so you’ll have to move fast to see it. Watch the video to quietly swoon at the merchandize.
Another vintage store ‘What Goes Around comes Around’ have had a Pop-Up on Lafayette St and they are closing it on March 9th. Offering 1000′s of vintage items under $30 this is well worth a visit.
Likewise the ‘Arts & Fleas Pop-Up Bazaar” is on this weekend at the Chelsea Market with lots of vintage materials and goods repurposed fro modern use.
No vintage but still Pop-Up Alice & Olivia’s on Greene st and DKNY on 5th Ave, Flatiron are also open this weekend. See here for details. LIKE Pop-Ups and Vintage.
