Take an ordinary NYC experience and turn it on its head. Ride a bike along NYC streets but do it when those streets are empty or almost and instead of a blue sky overhead you have a dark, starlit canopy above you and you’re surrounded by buildings with winking lights everywhere. It’s great!

There’s a few organised bike excursions and then there’s a much bigger group of commuters who choose the experience of biking at night over cabbing it home or riding the subway. Almost universally these nightime cyclists rave about the pleasures of riding down Broadway and weaving from side to side because there’s no cars or whizzing through areas chock a block during the day and now they’re the kingpin.
Of course you have to take some precautions. Most nightime cyclists recommend you wear a reflective top and use very bright lights on your bike. And steer clear of the nightclub areas where drunken revellers spew out onto the sidewalks and roads at 4 am. Also you do have to look out for garbage trucks who are busy doing their thing at night time. But ending up on the Hudson River Park at dawn….perfect!
