David Chang is a Korean-American Chef with an amazing reputation and slew of restaurants in NYC, along with others on Sydney and Toronto. He owns Momofuku Noodle Bar, Momofuku Ssam Bar, Momofuku Ko and Momofuku Milk Bar in NYC. His excellent reputation has been buttressed by numerous awards including 2 Michelin stars for Momofuku Ko for 5 years.
So when David talks about his favourite places to eat in NYC a sensible and discerning person who loves good food pays heed.
He has a number of places which serve Asian food of different kinds. The foremost of these is Great NY Noodletown in Chinatown which has a long menu of delicious treats from congee to barbecue meats to noodle soups. Open late, 4.am, it’s beloved of those recovering from a hard night.
He also likes food from Spicy and Tasty (Queens) which has lots of very hot food, and Oriental Garden (Chinatown) which has great dimsum and seafood dishes.
Next he recommends Robert De Niro’s Locanda Verde in Tribeca, attached to his Greenwich Hotel. It’s THE place for a fantastic breakfast with lots and lots of the classics done in very new and different ways. And it doesn’t hurt that your chances of running into Tribeca movers and shakers is strong. Get some prior intel about when to visit, it can be very busy.
Then on to Torrisi Italian Specialties in NoLita. It has a 7 course set dinner which changes daily and 20 course tasting menus. This is a tiny 20 seater, so obviously you will need to book but universally praised as offering the best of Italian American food you will be a very happy diner.
And finally wd-50 in the Lower East side. This restaurant does the classics such as clam chowder, southern fried chicken or lox and cream-cheese bagel but deconstructs and refigures them so the comfort remains and the unexpected is also part of your eating experience.
So there you are fabulous food recommended by a fabulous chef.
