There are a lot of New Yorkers who make some great extra cash renting out a spare bed, e.g. that fold-out in the study, or a specially set up guest room to people who want to visit New York for short stays?
These days most of those people wanting short stays that don’t cost an arm and a leg won’t use Craiglist anymore but will now use AirBnB.
And it has proved a great idea. Visitors love living with the natives and it’s proved lucrative for those with said spare bed.
Then disaster struck. New York City regulators slapped a hefty fine on someone who offered a New York room under the airBNB banner.
AirBNB financed an appeal and now the fine has been removed and there’s a lot of relieved airBNB New York landlords taking a deep breath.
So if you’ve got the spare bed/room snap out the clean sheets, join up with AirBNB and start welcoming visitors to New York. See the video to get some idea of what lures in potential short term renters. LIKE New Yorkers being able to share their houses and apartments of they choose to.
