The Mets are within spitting distance of a playoff spot, disregarding their last game, and in order to strengthen their lineup they have just brought Yoenus Cespedes in as a last minute trade.
They’re hoping they have another Keith Hernandez in Cespedes and his stats certainly are good enough to make that a realistic hope.
Cespedes meanwhile is starring in his own saga as a previously impoverished Cuban exile with incredible athletic skills and well developed baseball smarts. Since he joined an American team in 2012 he has impressed everyone and he’s had plenty of major league teams paying closed attention ot his undoubted gifts.
Now that he has left his last team, Detroit, to join the Mets, his new team is anxious to see how he shapes up. Cespedes just wants to keep on showing everyone that he’s one of the strongest and smartest athletes ever to come out of Cuba. Go Yoenis, we’re impressed for sure, see that highlights video.
