Of all the things people do in NYC surely the task of regularly bringing a smile to the lips of New Yorkers is one of the most rewarding. And given there’s a tendency for all New Yorkers to walk around, fast, and not look at anyone as they go along, it’s a great bit of regular New York behavior to play with.
The people who take on this task are the Improv Everywhere Group who regularly pull stunts in NYC which make everyone in a particular vicinity stop, gawk, break into delighted smiles and go on their way with their regular routine broken and their hearts warm with delight.
See the video of their latest escapade. Where are New Yorkers most determinably non communicative, unconscious and comparatively gloomy. Whey when they are going across a Crosswalk of course. so as you can see in the video the Improv Everywhere group break it all up with some spontaneous ballroom dancing and those delighted smiles break out right on cue.
Improv Everywhere have pulled some big stunts, walking phantom dogs in the street, seating groups of identically dressed quadruplets in Central Park, restaging the Ghost Busters episode in the New York Public Library and getting about 100 people to suddenly ‘freeze’ as they walk through Grand Central Station. Go to their site Improv Everywhere and catch up their catalog of past stunts.
Of course the most widely known stunt they pull is the famous annual No Pants Subway Ride. if you have a yen to participate in their stunts the site will tell you how and even though the No Pants Subway Ride is always held in cold weather they never have any trouble getting lots and lots of new Yorkers to take part. Perhaps you would like to part of the No Pants crew next time it’s held?
