You know all the NYC gentrification horror stories, much beloved local landmarks made over into 7 Eleven Stores, fabulous old buildings reduced to dust. Well occasionally the developers get it right. If ever a place deserved to be reduced to dust it is La Guardia airport. Seasoned travellers go white in anticipation of its inadequacies: no decent travel options to or from, lousy baggage handling, sub par food concessions, staff without answers to the easiest questions, dirt everywhere, a leaky roof and such a badly designed concourse people regualrly lose their way.
Now there’s been an announcement from the mucketty mucks Biden and Cumomo it will be torn down (YES!!) and a brilliant new La Guardia will arise, the very model of a perfect new airport and it will only cost $4 billion.
We lice in hope – New Yorkers above all others believe things when they happen, not when theya re announced to happen. And they take the promises of all politicians with a grain of salt. We’ll thank you gyys at the opening ceremony not before, so get on with it, La Guardia as it is at the moment is a disgrace to a beautiful city.
